The wait for Grand Theft Auto 6 grows shorter every day, and as time passes, eager fans have been speculating on what Rockstar could have up its sleeve this time around. Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to be an industry-changing launch, which has made the game a massive target for fan theories and rumors. This is understandable, given the hype, and a theory suggesting that GTA 6 is hiding a third protagonist is one of the most intriguing yet.
There is still a lot of mystery surrounding GTA 6, but it’s been confirmed for a while now that the game will feature two protagonists, Jason and Lucia. This marks the first time in the franchise that a male and female duo have led a GTA story, and its Bonnie and Clyde vibes are clear. It’s a fascinating step for the series, and it’s also what ignited this secret third character theory in the first place.
This article contains spoilers for Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption 2.
GTA 6's Third Protagonist Theory Explained
Jason and Lucia May Not Make it Out Alive
The theory stems from GTA 6‘s Bonne and Clyde influence, as the two real-life outlaws were gunned down in a blaze of gunfire in Louisiana. If GTA 6 is really taking its Bonnie and Clyde energy to heart, then it’s definitely possible that Jason and Lucia (or at least one of them) could meet the same fate. Of course, there’s no way to know for sure until the game launches, and this is purely speculation, but it’s not outside the realm of possibility.
GTA 6 will be released on May 26, 2026. Delays are always possible, but as of now, Rockstar appears to be on track to launch on the scheduled date.
Who Could Be the Third Playable Character?
GTA 6‘s second trailer gave deeper insight into the cast beyond its dual protagonists, but one character who still remains incredibly mysterious is Raul Bautista. It would be quite compelling to have Raul Bautista as a third playable character, and although this theory feels random at first glance, it’s not exactly the craziest idea, especially with Rockstar’s history with Red Dead Redemption.
The epilogues of both RDR1 and RDR2 have players take on the role of a brand-new character after the deaths of the main protagonists. In RDR1, Jack Marston closes out the story after John Marston’s death, and John leads RDR2‘s finale after Arthur Morgan’s emotional demise.
If Jason, Lucia, or both, meet a similarly tragic end, then it’s easy to imagine a scenario where Raul Bautista would close out the story in an epilogue segment in the same way that RDR1 and RDR2 did. With Bautista being one of the most secretive secondary characters confirmed for the story, it’s understandable why his role is being questioned. It’s important to remember that theories are far from fact, but it’s definitely one of the most interesting to spring up during the wait for GTA 6‘s launch.
If GTA 6 is really taking its Bonnie and Clyde energy to heart, then it’s definitely possible that Jason and Lucia (or at least one of them) could meet the same fate.
Rockstar has described Raul Bautista as a charming and reckless bank robber with a lot of experience under his belt.
More GTA 6 News Hopefully Arrives Before the Year is Over
There’s no telling when Rockstar will reveal more about GTA 6. The hype has hit a fever pitch, so there is hopefully one more trailer waiting in the wings before the game is here, so fans can get an even deeper look into what to expect. Only time will tell if Raul Bautista turns out to be a secret playable character, but regardless, it will be exciting to finally learn more about him.
